YOUTH MINISTER JOB DESCRIPTION FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH STURGIS KENTUCKY
The purpose of the Youth Minister is to be engaged in the ministry of making disciples and followers of Christ in the youth of First Christian Church and Union County. The primary purpose will be to assist youth, both churched and unchurched to begin and develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, fostering relationships that will enable them to mature in Christ. Our expectation is for the youth minister to also be involved in and facilitate the children’s ministry.
In general, the youth minister will work side by side with leadership, reporting to Rodney, the elders and church board regarding plans, activities, and direction of youth and children’s programs. Specifically:
Plan and lead activities and events both spiritual and recreational in nature to build relationships with the youth for evangelism and discipleship.
Provide discipleship at youth group meetings and activities.
Oversee music and worship for youth services.
Be involved in church led and local community youth ministry and outreach activities.
Plan and lead mission opportunities for our youth to serve others.
To provide leadership, involvement, and oversight of summer camp programs.
Be directly responsible for staffing volunteer positions, teachers, helpers, and chaperones.
Provide support and curriculum for teachers.
Model authentic spiritual discipline and be of good example to students.
Meet with youth leaders and provide direction, encouragement, and accountability for the mission and purpose of our youth ministry.
Regular communication of plans and activities of the youth to church.
Meet with the staff for the purpose of prayer, communication, and planning.
Develop relationships with families to provide ministry to the family as a unit.
Meet at all monthly ministry team, elder and church board meetings and to be accountable to Rodney and the Elders for youth activities.
Be available to fill pulpit occasionally in the absence of the Sr. Minister.
Spend adequate time in office to study, administrate, and generally be available to the church family in a consistent manner.
Assist minister and leadership team with other church needs and responsibilities.
Have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and provide adequate care to self and family.
Have and display a maturing knowledge of biblical truth and an ability to communicate with others in a manner that is relevant and effective in the lives of the youth.
Have an enthusiasm and eagerness to see young people come to know Christ personally and pursue Him.
Possess and display the organizational proficiency necessary to complete tasks and objectives in an effective and timely manner.
Youth minister will provide at least 40 hours of work during the week.
Youth minister will have two scheduled days off per week. Recognizing the fact that often scheduled days are interrupted by ministry, those days should be rescheduled the same week and days off do not accumulate from week to week. Sunday is considered a work day as minister is expected to teach.
Youth minister will be encouraged to participate in events that will encourage, enhance and refresh the minister and will not be counted as part of vacation time.
2 weeks paid vacation will be provided during the year. Vacations must be approved by leadership.
Must pass background check to be considered for the position.
